LOS ANGELES: US President Joe Biden stated on Friday that his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, “didn’t want to hear” American warnings before Russia invaded his country.

“I know a lot of people thought I was exaggerating,” Biden remarked at a Los Angeles fundraiser luncheon, referring to his forewarning of a Russian strike.

But he remarked in front of the press, “But I knew we had data to sustain (the assessment).”

“(Russian President Vladimir Putin) was gonna go into the border. And there was no doubt, and Zelensky didn’t want to hear it, nor did a lot of people. I understand why they didn’t want to hear it, but he went in.

Long before Putin announced the “special operation” against Ukraine on February 24, the US began voicing concerns about Russia’s preparations for an invasion.

The warnings were regarded with scepticism and even veiled criticism from certain European friends, who thought the US was being overly cautious at the time.
