Police reported Saturday that a 20-year-old man was killed and seven other young people were injured after gunshots erupted during a graduation party in central Virginia.
Chesterfield County Police Maj. Brad Badgerow said at a news conference that two separate conflicts involving participants of the primarily outdoor party in Chester were reported just before police received a call about shots fired late Friday night.
Badgerow said it was unclear whether the incident was a gunfight with numerous shooters, but officers discovered more than 50 casings of four different calibres.
Whether this suggests there were four shooters That I can’t tell you. However, it appears that at least four distinct firearms were used, according to him.
When authorities got on the scene, they discovered Taborri J. Carter, 20, of Petersburg, suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers attempted to help him, but he died at the spot.
According to a news release, five other shooting victims had already left the site before police arrived, and their injuries seemed to be non-life threatening.
According to police, two more people were hurt when they were hit by a vehicle while fleeing the gunfire.
Those injured were aged 16 to 21 and came from Chesterfield or adjacent areas.
According to Badgerow, the party, which had been advertised on social media, drew between 50 and 100 people.
An investigation is now underway. As of Saturday afternoon, no arrests or suspect information had been made public.
