As he assessed the situation, with emergency services rushing to secure the area and 60 fire fighters in attendance, the Doctor Who star said he witnessed what appeared to be a ‘terrorist attack’ and said it was ‘really quite awful, guys.’

‘It’s really pretty bad guys,’ John said in a clip uploaded to Twitter. ‘Over where we are here, there’s a lot of police, a dead body in the middle of the road.’

‘Just in case anything else occurs, because it’s something that’s between us and any other vehicles that may come,’ the actor said he was advised to stand behind a tree.

The incident occurred near the popular Kurfuerstendamm shopping street in Berlin’s west end, according to Berlin police spokesperson Martin Dams, while Berlin police stated on Twitter: ‘A man is thought to have driven into a group of people.’ It’s still unclear whether the incident was an accident or an intentional act.’

‘If I’m pointing to you from the road, up there, the car came down onto the pavement and has some onto the road over there, has hit somebody, and then has gone down the road and has come back onto the pavement down that way, and come back onto the pavement and gone through a bunch of people, gone through the photograph I posted of a cafe and gone through a bunch of people,’ John continued.

‘The police presence is huge, they’re cleaning out the area but it’s cordoned off,’ he continued.

‘There are helicopters arriving to airlift people right now, so I’ll show you this and then get back to you.’

John revealed in another tape that he’d been brought ‘all the way down from the incident,’ with helicopters arriving to assist the injured.

‘This is horrible,’ he said. Hundreds of emergency services are available in the area. They’re enclosing city block after city block as they continue to expand. We’re being pushed to the side and out the door.

‘With his pal Mike who is ex-military – he said “get behind a tree and put anything between you and anything that might come at you” so we did that.

‘We’re trying to walk back, and I know a couple of the news media have been onto us – Sky News and ABC in America so we will get back to you.’

He added, ‘We are making our way back to the hotel, I’ve already spoken to my parents…to let them know we’re ok,’ he said. ‘But we’re going back to the hotel because we kind of don’t want to be on the street.’
