RABAT: Moroccan navy rescued 385 migrants on their way to Spain last week, according to the Morroco news agency.

As per the Associated Press, the migrants, who include women and minors, are largely from Sub-Saharan Africa.

They were travelling in many inflatable boats in the Strait of Gibraltar, which divides the African continent from Europe.

According to the report, several of the migrants were in poor health and received first aid from the navy before being returned to various Moroccan ports.

Because the shortest route between Morocco’s Mediterranean beaches and Spain is only 14 kilometres via the Strait of Gibraltar, Morocco has become a transit country for African migrants seeking better living circumstances in Europe.
