House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated that Democrats would hold a hearing on a potential assault weapons ban.
We will soon conduct a hearing on an assault weapons prohibition bill. The Congress took decades ago that has been shown to save lives and one that the American people support today, Pelosi, D-Calif said in a letter to Democratic colleagues.
In the letter, Pelosi also stated that the House will vote on a red flag legislation measure next week. In addition to the wider package of gun changes that the House Judiciary Committee presented for a vote at a hearing Thursday.

It’s unlikely that any proposal to prohibit assault weapons will make it past the committee stage in the House since there aren’t enough House Democrats who favor it.
The majority of Democrats, including President Biden, support a ban on assault weapons. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tennessee, pushed for one at a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday.

Cohen stated that he will not propose an amendment to the omnibus bill to prohibit assault weapons.
Even in the aftermath of the horrifying mass shootings in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York, it’s exceedingly doubtful that any House legislation will become law.
Several senators, on the other hand, are working on a compromise approach. Lawmakers met in separate groups on Tuesday and Wednesday. Their staff is continuing to debate alternatives.
