A strange outage is affecting Facebook and Instagram users in the United Kingdom.
Users were having problems accessing the desktop versions of the social networks at 1.30 p.m. on Tuesday (May 7).
Anyone trying to access Facebook’s main site was greeted with an error message instead of the regular landing page.
The notice states, ‘We’re working on it, and we’ll get it rectified as soon as we can.’

Metro.co.uk was able to confirm that the main Facebook desktop site is presently unavailable.
Meta owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, which some users claim is experiencing issues as well, though we were unable to corroborate this.
As individuals reported the problem, DownDetector, a company that tracks outages on famous websites, saw a jump in traffic.
The hardest afflicted areas, according to DownDetector, are London, Birmingham, and Manchester.

According to the site, 71% of the problems were with the desktop version, while 25% had trouble loading the app.
The source of the outage has not been revealed by Facebook, although it does not appear to have impacted the social media giant’s smartphone apps.
Users on both iOS and Android have reported that Facebook is functioning normally.
It’s the latest in a series of outages that have afflicted Meta platforms.
