US declares $820 million in aid for Ukraine, including missile systems
In Washington In response to Russia’s overwhelming reliance on long-range strikes in the conflict, the U.S. said on Friday that it will give Ukraine $820 million in fresh military aid. This help will include new surface-to-air missile systems and counter-artillery radars.
Recently, Russia has fired nonstop for hours at a time on Ukrainian military while launching scores of missiles across the country. The authorities of Ukraine have publicly urged their Western partners to provide more weapons and cutting-edge technology right away so they can close the manpower and equipment gap.
In total, the U.S. has provided Ukraine with more than $8.8 billion in arms and military training. The Ukrainian government has requested additional support from Western partners in order to fend off larger and better-equipped Russian soldiers. Since Russia’s incursion in February, about $7 billion of such aid has been declared.
At a press conference this week during the NATO summit in Madrid, President Joe Biden declared, “We are going to assist Ukraine as long as it takes.” He stated that Western sanctions enacted in response to the invasion had already done serious economic and international harm to Russia.
According to Biden, the U.S. is providing Ukraine with “the capacity” so “they can continue to oppose the Russian attack.” I’m not sure how it will finish, but it won’t involve Russia defeating Ukraine there, I think.
It will take weeks or months for the majority of the help officially announced on Friday to reach Ukraine.
As part of the new deal, the United States will buy two NASAMS anti-aircraft systems from Norway, which are used to safeguard the airspace above Washington, D.C.’s White House and Capitol. According to a senior defence official, the NASAMS are meant to assist Ukraine in moving away from Soviet-era air defence systems, which in addition to being well known to the Russians, must be serviced with.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, expressed appreciation.
“I am especially appreciative of the United States and Joe Biden for the support package presented today for Ukraine, which includes the extremely potent NASAMS — an anti-aircraft missile system that will greatly improve our air defence. In his weekly video message late Friday, Zelensky stated, “We have fought hard for these goods.
Additionally, the Ukrainians will get up to 150,000 rounds of 155-millimeter artillery ammunition from the Pentagon. How long those new rounds would last is unknown given the heavy use of artillery on both sides. The officer chose not to disclose the approximate daily round count between Russia and Ukraine.
Additionally, the Pentagon will buy Ukraine four counter-artillery radars. Defense contractors must develop those new purchases, which were paid for by the Pentagon’s Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, in a matter of weeks. Additionally, Ukrainians are receiving training on how to utilise the brand-new technologies.
