A worn-out, runny-nosed President Joe Biden entered Covid solitude with his legislative programme stalled, a tense showdown with the House speaker looming, and an incomplete drone assassination plan for the top terrorist in the world.

Over two weeks later, with his agenda unexpectedly rekindled, tensions with China sharply raised, and the terrorist dead, Biden is well into his second period of isolation.

The two weeks and more that Biden has been alone with his German Shepherd have been some of the most significant of his presidency, with his previously hopeless legislative fortunes experiencing a stunning turnaround and his foreign policy being rattled by events across the world.

Even some White House employees reported experiencing some whiplash, and Biden himself has expressed his thoughts to confidants about the unexpected change of events.

He told an online gathering of Democrats on Wednesday that “it’s been a remarkable few days for the nation.”

Unmentioned was how incredible those days had been for Biden himself, who managed almost all of it while working alone with just a minimal in-person team from the White House apartment.
