Dax Tejera, died of a heart attack on Dec. 23, at age 37. This was confirmed by network president Kim Godwin in a memo to staff.
“We are thinking of his wife, Veronica, and their two young daughters, as well as the rest of the Tejera family,” she said. “Give your loved ones a tighter hug on Christmas Eve. And don’t be afraid to lean on each other.”
As soon as Tejera’s friends and coworkers heard the sad news, they took to social media to remember their friend.
“It was such a sad day for everyone at John Quiones, News Correspondent.”
Dax Tejera was not only the smartest and most caring executive producer I’ve ever worked with, but also a close friend. On Christmas Day, I’m thinking about his wife, Veronica, and his two little girls.”
“Dax was a groundbreaking ep. So important to ABC because he was one of the first Latinos to become an executive producer, if not the first. I worked at both Fusion and ABC with him. Always helpful and pretty good. He will be missed. And worry about his young family,” Jim Avila said.
Three years later, at the beginning of 2020, he started working at This Week. For his coverage of politics, he earned two Emmy nominations in the end. His last Instagram post was a picture of him with President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. He posted it the day he died.
