Thailand is set to eliminate visa requirements for travelers from India and Taiwan from the coming month until May 2024 in a move aimed at boosting tourism as the high season approaches.

Thailand had already removed visa requirements for Chinese tourists, who constituted the largest pre-pandemic tourism market for the country previously, in September, accounting for 11 million out of the record 39 million arrivals in 2019.

Thailand had already welcomed 22 million visitors, contributing to 927.5 billion baht ($25.67 billion) in revenue as of the latest government data covering the period from January to October 29.

According to spokesperson Chai Wacharonke, travelers from India and Taiwan will be able to enter Thailand for a period of 30 days under this new policy.

India has emerged as the fourth-largest source market for Thailand’s tourism this year, following Malaysia, China, and South Korea, with approximately 1.2 million arrivals.

In particular, inbound tourism from India has exhibited signs of growth, driven by the efforts of airlines and hospitality chains targeting this market.

Thailand’s government hopes that the travel sector can help offset the ongoing challenges of weak exports that have constrained economic growth with a target of approximately 28 million arrivals this year.
