Former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis entered a guilty plea on Tuesday in the Georgia election subversion case.

She has agreed to cooperate with Fulton County prosecutors, becoming the third person to plead guilty in just the past week.

During an unexpected hearing in Atlanta, Ellis admitted guilt for aiding and abetting false statements, a felony related to her involvement in spreading election misinformation to Georgia lawmakers in December 2020. Her sentence includes five years of probation and a $5,000 restitution order.

In a heartfelt statement before the judge, Ellis expressed regret for her involvement in the unprecedented efforts to overturn the 2020 election led by former President Trump.

“If I knew then what I knew now, I would have declined to represent Donald Trump in these post-election challenges. I look back on this experience with deep remorse,” Ellis said, her voice breaking at times.

Following consecutive guilty pleas last week, the latest development in the extensive case involves former Trump campaign lawyer Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro, who played a role in the fake electors scheme.

These three plea agreements represent a significant stride for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who initiated the charges in August and is gearing up for trials involving Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, and other prominent figures, all of whom have maintained their not guilty pleas.

Ellis, Chesebro, and Powell have all committed to testifying for the prosecution in upcoming trials. Their decision to cooperate positions them as formidable opponents of Trump, despite their prior affiliations. With their legal backgrounds, they can provide insights into the behind-the-scenes events of 2020.

Initially, 19 individuals were charged in this complex case, with four having pleaded guilty thus far.

During an emotional courtroom appearance, Jenna Ellis expressed regret for her personal “failures” and a deep sense of remorse while renouncing her involvement in Trump’s legal endeavors to contest the 2020 presidential election.

“As an attorney who is also a Christian, I take my responsibilities as a lawyer very seriously and I endeavor to be a person of sound moral and ethical character in all of my dealings,” Ellis said.
But after the 2020 election, “I failed to do my due diligence,” she said.

“I relied on others, including lawyers with many more years of experience than I, to provide me with true and reliable information … what I did not do, but should have done, your honor, was to make sure that the facts the other lawyers alleged to be true were, in fact, true,” Ellis said.

Jenna Ellis’s guilty plea has drawn Rudy Giuliani into a state crime accusation. She implicated Giuliani in the act of misleading Georgia legislators by promoting unfounded voter-fraud claims.

This development occurred just a week after Kenneth Chesebro implicated Giuliani in the fake electors plot, aimed at undermining the Electoral College process. Giuliani, however, continues to assert his innocence.

According to court filings, Ellis admitted that she “intentionally aided and abetted” Giuliani and another Trump lawyer, Ray Smith, in “in knowingly, willfully, and unlawfully making … false statements to members of the Georgia Senate.”

Their false claims revolved around unsubstantiated allegations of widespread voter fraud, particularly concerning mail-in ballots and the supposed inclusion of thousands of illegal votes from felons, minors, and deceased individuals.

Both Smith and Giuliani, however, entered not guilty pleas.

Contrary to these allegations, multiple investigations and recounts conducted by Georgia election officials found no truth to these claims.

Joe Biden won the state over Donald Trump by approximately 12,000 votes.

In return for Jenna Ellis’s cooperation, prosecutors dropped the two initial charges against her, including a violation of Georgia’s racketeering law, known as RICO.

Trump’s attorney, Steve Sadow, expressed the belief that this development is beneficial to his client, emphasizing that the criminal conduct acknowledged by Ellis does not directly implicate President Trump.

“For the fourth time, Fani Willis and her prosecution team have dismissed the RICO charge in return for a plea to probation,” Sadow said. “What that shows is this so-called RICO case is nothing more than a bargaining chip for DA Willis.”

As part of the plea agreement, Jenna Ellis, known for her active online presence, is prohibited from posting any content on social media related to the case while legal proceedings are ongoing against any of the defendants, as stated by prosecutors.

In separate disciplinary actions in Colorado, where Ellis practices law, she openly acknowledged that many of her post-election public statements were untrue, including her assertion that the election was “stolen” from Trump.

A judge censured her, and she agreed to pay $224, effectively concluding the misconduct investigation.

Notably, Ellis has distanced herself from Trump’s circle in recent months, publicly voicing support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.

Following her indictment, Ellis publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of financial support from pro-Trump groups. She managed to raise more than $216,000 through an online crowdfunding platform.
