- The victim Nicolas Galy was struck shortly after jumping from an aircraft.
A French pilot, identified as Alain C, has been issued a flying ban after inadvertently decapitating a skydiver with a plane wing during a jump following a tragic incident in July 2018.
The Montauban criminal court found the 64-year-old pilot guilty of involuntary manslaughter and handed down a suspended sentence.
The victim, Nicolas Galy, was struck shortly after jumping from an aircraft operated by the Midi-Pyrénées Skydiving School Association, leading to a €20,000 fine for the organization.
The pilot’s actions, including an immediate descent toward the aerodrome tarmac after the drop, were scrutinized during legal proceedings, underscoring concerns about recklessness and negligence.
The incident prompted improvements in safety measures, with mandatory briefings implemented to enhance communication between pilots and skydivers and prevent such tragedies in the future.
