Maryanne Trump Barry, the 86-year-old elder sister of former US President Donald Trump and a retired federal judge, was discovered dead in her Upper East Side apartment.

She was pronounced dead at the scene found in her Fifth Avenue residence at around 4 am. The cause of death is yet to be determined by the Medical Examiner, with no apparent signs of trauma reported.

Nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit by President Bill Clinton in 1999, Maryanne Trump Barry mostly operated under the radar while her brother was in office.

She served on the Philadelphia-based appeals court for two decades before retiring in 2019 amid a civil misconduct probe related to her family’s suspected tax evasion having worked as a businesswoman and in television.

The inquiry, prompted by a New York Times exposé, investigated whether Barry violated judicial behavior guidelines in connection with the revealed financial irregularities.

Maryanne was a key advisor and confidant, although their relationship soured in his final year in office when recordings surfaced of her criticizing her brother throughout Donald Trump’s life.

Barry’s criticisms, made public by Mary Trump, included remarks about Trump’s tweeting, lying, lack of preparation, and changing stories, describing him as “cruel” with no principles.

Mary Trump’s book also revealed Barry’s claim that Trump had someone take the SAT exam on his behalf. Barry indicated a strained relationship with her brother in the recordings, stating she had not asked him for a favor since 1981, suggesting Trump attempted to take credit for her successful legal career.
