A man accused of a hammer attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband, ex-House Speaker, tearfully testified about his involvement in a bizarre plot to combat US corruption fueled by conspiracy theories.

David DePape, 43, pleaded not guilty to charges, including attempted kidnap of a federal official, potentially facing life in prison.

He detailed a political transformation triggered by right-wing content after initially holding left-wing beliefs. DePape outlined a “grand plan” involving luring various targets to Pelosi’s home, intending to confront figures like Hunter Biden and seek pardons for perceived “criminals.”

His emotional testimony described a disrupted plan and expressed regret for injuring Pelosi, emphasizing the impact of conspiracy beliefs on his actions. Closing arguments in the trial are scheduled for Wednesday.
