A tram crash at Universal Studios Hollywood on Saturday night injured fifteen people, who were subsequently taken to the hospital. Los Angeles County Fire dispatched its units to the theme park shortly after 21:00 local time, according to social media updates.
The patients were being treated for minor injuries; it was reported. The LA Times was told by the country sheriff that a four-car tram had crashed. Lt. Maria Abal stated that the last car of the tram hit a rail as it traveled down a hill at a parking structure.
“There was some type of issue with the brakes,” Abal said, adding: “We don’t exactly know what yet.”
As in many theme parks, trams at Universal Studios Hollywood ferry people around the site, which spans more than 400 acres. Trams also serve for tours. It remains unclear what purpose the tram served at the time of the crash.
Furthermore, it remains uncertain whether the incident will affect operations at the theme park, but the California Highway Patrol is investigating.
Located in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles County, California, Universal Studios Hollywood began as a movie studio in 1915, with a theme park added in 1964.
Key attractions include The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and a studio tour ride, which provides riders with a behind-the-scenes trip of some of Hollywood’s most memorable films and television shows.
Representatives have contacted Universal Studios for comment. The Park is one of several Universal Studios, including Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Singapore.
