Backrooms is an upcoming American science fiction horror film directed by Kane Parsons and written by Will Soodik. It is set to release in theaters through A24 on May 29, 2026.
Chernin entertainment financed the project for under $10 million.
The story follows Dr. Mary Kline, a therapist who enters an otherworldly dimension to find her missing patient, Clark.
The film blends psychological tension with sci-fi horror. It creates an eerie, maze-like world filled with suspense.
The Backrooms themselves are an endless maze of yellow lit rooms. They resemble offices or storage spaces.
These rooms exist outside normal space and time and can be entered by “no-clipping” through floors or walls, as if reality itself glitches.
Anyone who enters can get trapped. Unseen entities make visitors feel watched or followed.
The spaces are empty but echo labyrinths from myths, such as the Minotaur’s maze, or infinite, surreal worlds in fairy tales.
The Backrooms’ similarity to mundane, soulless modern locations adds to the unsettling atmosphere.
