Euphoria paid a heartfelt tribute to Angus Cloud in its season 3 finale. Cloud, who played Fezco O’Neill, died in 2023 at the age of 25, and the show honored both the actor and his character.
At the beginning of season 3, Fezco is written out of regular events in the story. Creator Sam Levinson explains his absence by revealing that Fez is in prison, which keeps the character’s presence alive within the narrative.
Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya, speaks to Fez on the phone early in the season. She promises she will pick him up when he is released. That promise becomes meaningful again in the finale.
In the final episode, Rue stays at Ali’s home while recovering from injuries and falls asleep. She then dreams about Fez and sees a news report about an escaped inmate, which leads her to believe Fez has broken out of prison.
She says, “I have to go get him,” and recalls her promise to be there for him. The dream takes her to Fez’s convenience store, which now appears empty and boarded up, and it ends with a brief, joyful moment between Rue and Fez.
The story later reveals that Rue’s vision happened while she was experiencing an overdose on fentanyl, which she had mistaken for pain medication. The dream reflects her final thoughts before she is saved.
Creator Sam Levinson also explained that he wanted to keep Fez’s character present in the series after Angus Cloud’s death, saying the loss was deeply difficult and that preserving Fez on screen became a way to honor him.
