Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that providing relief to the poor segments of the society is the top priority, a strategy must be formulated to revive the economy and keep the people safe from coronavirus.

Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a meeting of the Economic Think Tank, which was also attended by Finance Advisor Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Dr Ishrat Hussain and Governor SBP Raza Baqir.

During the meeting, Finance Advisor Abdul Hafeez Sheikh briefed on the objectives of the Economic Think Tank.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that tough measures would have to be taken to improve the economy in difficult times.

The Prime Minister said that the government had adopted a strategy of balancing the economy and the protection of people from day one during the outbreak of the global pandemic of Coronavirus.

He said that due to Coronavirus, the economy of the whole world including Pakistan was badly affected. The first priority is to have a strategy to revive the economy and keep the people safe from the pandemic.

He said that in the current situation, an out-of-the-box solution is needed for economic growth. Coronavirus has negatively affected Pakistan as well as the global economy.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that our main focus is on providing relief to the poor segments of the society, the Ehsas program has helped us a lot in the implementation of this strategy.

He said that Ehsas program is the flagship program of the government for poverty alleviation and Ehsas program needs to be extended to more needy people.

He said that an excellent package has been announced for the construction and housing sector, the construction package aims to drive the wheel of employment opportunities and the economy while also providing affordable housing to the poor.

Prime Minister Imran Khan appreciated the suggestions made by the think tank on banking and finance and said that the think tank regularly provided feedback on government projects, policies and initiatives.

Finance Advisor Abdul Hafeez Sheikh said that the purpose of the think tank is to work with experts in various fields to improve the economy.

Abdul Hafeez Sheikh said that today the banking and finance sector was analysed and it was decided to provide loans to the people in easy instalments.

Former Finance Secretary Dr Waqar Masood, Trade Advisor Razzaq Dawood, Shaukat Tareen, Sultan Allana, Dr Ijaz Nabi also participated in the meeting through video link.
