LAHORE: Taking a landmark initiative, the Punjab Government has established University of Child Health Sciences—a first-of-its-kind institution catering to child health in Pakistan.

According to the notification, available with Bol News, the newly established university will function under the provisions of the University of Child Health Sciences, Lahore Act 2021.

“All properties, movable and immovable, rights and interests of whatever kind used, enjoyed, possessed, owned or vested in or held in trust by or for the Children Hospital, Institute of Child Health, Lahore and all liabilities legally subsisting against that Institution shall stand transferred to the University under Section 3 (5) of the Act.”

Talking to Bol News, Dean and Head of The Institute of Child Health and Children Hospital Lahore Professor Dr Masood Sadiq said establishment of a university for child health in Pakistan was a dream which has come true.

“It is a landmark step towards child health in Pakistan which is highly commendable,” he said, adding that it will be the first university in the country that would award degrees in child health.

According to Prof Dr Masood Sadiq, in the absence of any such facility, health professionals faced many issues related to child health.

He further said it was a daunting task but they are pleased with the way Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid supported their cause in turning a dream into reality.

Prof Dr Masood Sadiq further said that the newly established university will have three allied colleges including College of Nursing, College of Allied Health and College of Pediatrics. Besides, he added, the university will have five institutes too.
