Stockholm: A spokeswoman for a Swedish penitentiary told AFP that two prisoners demanded Pizza in ransom as they held two prison guards hostage for nine hours. The guards were released after the pizzas were delivered.

Prison spokeswoman Stina Lyles also stated that neither guard “was hurt and were able to return safely to their family”.

Another prison official Torkel Omnel said that the prisoners managed to force themselves into an area reserved only for guards at 12:30 pm (1030 GMT). They were doing time for murder at the Hallby high security prison near the town of Eskilstuna.

The two guards who were in the area at the time were taken hostage. Omnell said that “we quickly sent in a mediator” and called the police.

“A helicopter to escape and 20 pizzas for the other inmates”, were the two demands made by the hostage-takers as per the Swedish Media Reports.

Jail Spokeswoman Lyles stated: “Yes, the pizzas were delivered,”

The inmates were then taken to police station and were questioned for ‘kidnapping’, said the police.
