SEOUL: Twenty-two more US soldiers and two relevant civilians in South Korea tested positive for the Covid-19, the US Forces Korea (USFK) said Wednesday.

The USFK said in a statement that 24 USFK-affiliated individuals were confirmed with the Covid-19 after arriving in South Korea between July 13 and August 8.

Nine service members arrived at Osan Air Base on a US government-chartered flight from the United States and a military flight from a US military installation off the peninsula on August 7 and 8.

Thirteen service members and two family members arrived at the Incheon International Airport on international commercial flights on July 13, 27, 30, August 1, 4, and 5-8.

The confirmed patients have been transferred to designated isolation facilities at the US army bases here.

The total number of infections among the USFK-affiliated personnel rose to 1,193, according to Yonhap news agency.

In the latest tally, South Korea reported 2,223 more cases of Covid-19 for the past 24 hours, lifting the total number of infections to 216,206. It was the country’s highest daily caseload since the first case was found in January last year.–Xinhua
