Premier League: Chelsea wins 3-0 as Palace collapses at the Bridge

On the opening weekend of the Premier League, Chelsea wins by 3-0 over Crystal Palace as the European champions started off with outstanding performance.

Spanish left-back Marcos Alonso of Chelsea availed the free-kick opportunity and bumped up the score to 1-0 on the 27th minute. After a while, just five minutes before half-time, US forward Christian Pulisic followed up to bump the score to double.

Chelsea’s home ground defender Trevoh Chalobah scored his debut goal off the post in the second half.

The 22-year-old, who has spent the last three seasons on loan in England and France, knelt after scoring to excite the home fans in the largest Stamford Bridge crowd since the coronavirus pandemic hit in March 2020, with over 38,000 in attendance.

Throughout the game, Chelsea fans bragged about their status as Champions League holders, while Kai Havertz, who scored the game’s solitary goal in the final against Manchester City, was greeted like a hero as he came off the bench.

In their first league game under new manager Patrick Vieira, Palace were outclassed and took nearly an hour to get their first shot on target, a feeble header by Christian Benteke that goalkeeper Edouard Mendy comfortably saved.
