Beyoncé turns 40: Watch as celebrities pay tribute to Beyoncé

It’s a huge day for Beyoncé, who turns 40 today after reigning over the pop scene for decades.

Fans and fellow celebrities sent their good wishes in a video, in honor of the event. In a series of beautiful vignettes, older personalities give their insights on what it means to enter your forties, and fellow musicians perform their own versions of some of Beyoncé’s most popular songs.

Others thanked Beyoncé for motivating them to pursue careers in the entertainment industry. “You’ve given me and so many others permission to be free to embrace all that we are,” says Laverne Cox.

“You’ve given us a blueprint for excellence: that when we think you can’t surpass yourself, you do.” Kerry Washington adds, “You are such a gift to this world. Thank you for being an inspiration to me, to my kids, to brown skin girls all over the world, to non-brown skin girls all over the world.”
