When commuters on a busy Southern California motorway noticed dollar notes scattered over the road, they were taken aback. Some people were seen hurriedly rushing for money in a video that went viral, uploaded by prominent Instagram influencer Demi Bagby.

Authorities have detained two persons and are seeking additional who were seen in various films grabbing cash from the streets after the footage went viral.

She stated, turning the camera to reveal the unfolding horrors behind her. “This is the most insane thing I’ve ever seen. Someone dropped money all over the freeway. San Diego and shut, literally it has shut down.”

An armored vehicle conveying the notes was the source of the money drop. If the stolen money is not returned immediately, police have threatened serious punishment.

According to the media, the accident occurred on Interstate 5 in Carlsbad shortly before 9:15 a.m. Friday while the truck was traveling from San Diego to a Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

As Sgt. Curtis Martin of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) claimed, “One of the doors popped open and bags of cash fell out,” Several bags burst apart, scattering wads of cash, chiefly $1 and $20 notes, over the road, causing havoc.

The California Highway Patrol advised everyone to return the money, “If you stop to pick up money, as many people have videoed the scene, you can possibly be facing charges,” Officer Jim Bettencourt told the media.

CHP Officer Mary Bailey praised people who had already returned the money they had collected in a statement released Friday night.

Also, the warning issued by the agency, “Multiple pictures and videos were posted on social media (that) captured faces and license plates at the scene of this incident. The CHP is working with the FBI to identify those who participated in the theft of money.”

The Media network which broadcast the subsequently captured two persons in San Diego, and investigators are still on the lookout for more. According to a CHP spokesman, a man and woman were detained on suspicion of stealing money, and “the pair’s car was blocking traffic after they got locked out of their vehicle.”

A similar event occurred in New Jersey in 2018, when the back door of an armored vehicle malfunctioned, spilling a cache of cash on the roadway.
