SHC seeks affidavit from CBM that no land occupied to establish cattle market

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday sought an affidavit from the Cantonment Board Malir (CBM) that no private land was occupied to establish cattle market in the past.

The CBM administers and manages the largest animal market of Pakistan which is established every year on the occasion of Eid ul Adha near Sohrab Goth area in the vicinity of Karachi.

Addressing the CBM counsel, while hearing the case, Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput said it was a common complaint of citizens that you established animal markets by seizing private societies and parks.

“Today you are entering private societies, tomorrow you will enter people’s houses. You people even ruin parks,” he said. Upon which, the lawyer said he was ready to submit an affidavit that no such thing had happened.

Zafar Rajput remarked if the affidavit turned out to be false, then its consequences would also be serious.

The SHC has directed the cantonment board to submit an affidavit in this regard till December 7.

Pakistan Navy Civilian Housing Society (CNGE) has filed the case against the CBM. The complainant said every year, on the occasion of Eid ul Adha, their land was occupied and parks were ruined after forcibly entering the society.

The plaintiff said the occupation of land was being practiced every year since 2016.
