KARACHI: Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Marri said that 70 per cent of people in Sindh were forced to live below the poverty line as daily wage earners were getting less than a dollar in many areas, including Badin, Thatta, and Tando Allahyar

“The economic condition of people is worrisome in Sindh as food inflation is rising. But daily wage-earned workers are being paid less to make both ends meet,” he said while addressing the launching ceremony of the book titled, Covering Agriculture.
Dr Marri said that with regard to the budget allocated by the government for higher education, the government spends 77 per cent of the total student expenditure, while the student pays 33 per cent, so they should work hard on education.
He said that only 10 per cent of the youth in the country were pursuing higher education, while 90 per cent of the youth were deprived of higher education.
Ali Hassan Bhutto, Chairman Sindhi Skilled Development Programme (SSDP) of Sindhi Association of North America (SANA), said that Sindh had few students in the US educational institutions than other provinces. In this regard, they were also training them online with scholarship opportunities.
Dr Aijaz Ali Khooharo, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, said books were the best friend to students, researchers and agricultural experts. The book, Covering Agriculture, preserved the latest information about the basic aspects of agriculture and the agricultural sector, he added.

Dean Faculty of Crop Production Dr Qamaruddin Chachar, Prof Amin Muhammad Soomro, Dr Velo Soothar and others were also present at the event.
