More delays are expected on M25 as two lanes are still closed and is predicted to remain closed overnight.

An oil spill on the M25 in Hertfordshire is still causing havoc, with delays predicted to linger until Thursday (April 21). After an accident on the highway yesterday, cars were trapped in traffic for hours while emergency crews tried to clear the road (April 19).

Today (April 21), traffic is expected to be impacted by the accident, with the road scheduled to be partially closed throughout the day and overnight.

A lorry crashed with the centre reservation at around 11.15 a.m. yesterday, causing oil to spill.

Between Junction 23, near South Mimms, and Junction 25, near Enfield, the M25 was closed in both directions. It is currently partially open, however two lanes between Junction 24 (Potters Bar) and Junction 25 remain closed.

The road block lasted all night and into the morning today (April 20). “The M25 in Hertfordshire clockwise between Junction 23 and J25 is now open,” a representative for National Highways said in a recent update.

“Two lanes (of four) remain closed between Junction 24 to J25. These lanes will remain closed until complex road surface clean-up works are complete. This is likely to be ongoing throughout the day and overnight.”

The route is now experiencing 50-minute delays, but traffic is expected to clear quickly.
