Concerned about individuals stranded in some of the most dangerous parts of Ukraine, an international disaster relief agency has appealed for humanitarian corridors to be established.

Others have remained stranded in hard-hit cities while some Ukrainians return home and fresh waves of migrants arrive as a result of Moscow’s full-scale onslaught in the country’s east.

Alice Jefferson, ShelterBox’s director of emergency response, told the PA news agency: “We now realise that individuals are constantly imprisoned in some of the most dangerous locations, with few choices to either obtain crucial care or to safely escape.”

It has summoned Moscow’s envoy to express “grave concern” over a senior military commander’s remarks that the country’s Russian-speaking community is repressed.

“These claims are false,” the government wrote online.
