A Chicago man has been charged with assaulting two police officers who came to the site of a mass shooting that killed one teenager and wounded four others on Tuesday. Following a hail of gunfire in the 4800 block of South Ada Street at 4:30 p.m., Mario Sanders, 20, reportedly pulled one officer to the ground and hit another in the face, according to the Chicago Police Department.

He is charged with two charges of felony aggravated violence on a peace officer and two counts of misdemeanor evading arrest. According to Chicago Police Commander Don Jerome, the killing occurred after a skirmish erupted in connection with a “chronic gang issue.” A 19-year-old man was murdered, and four other teenagers were injured. When cops arrived at the scene, they sought to save the victims’ lives but were confronted by a “hostile mob,” according to Jerome.

“Community members and gang members from this crowd were aggressively battling the cops as they were attempting to save the victims,” he claimed. Mitchell Rosas, 42, was detained and charged with resisting arrest for allegedly attempting to prevent cops from delivering medical treatment to the victims of the incident.

According to Jerome, a car left the site of the incident and wrecked several streets away. Authorities claimed two firearms were retrieved from the automobile and a third was discovered somewhere. There have been no arrests in relation to the incident. The horrific attack was one of two mass shootings in the city within a few hours. Another incident occurred five miles distant, injuring six individuals.
