Atlanta police revealed Monday that the female ride-share driver who shot a man in a Target parking lot overnight may have saved her own life, as the injured man will now face criminal charges for allegedly posing as a police officer and following the woman until she thwarted his efforts by drawing her firearm.

Around 11:35 p.m. Sunday, legitimate police arrived at the Buckhead Target on Peachtree Road for a report of a person shot. When they arrived, they discovered that an adult man had been shot and that a female was still on the scene.

According to preliminary investigations, the female was working for a ride-share business and had dropped off a client at a hotel on Cheshire Bridge Road when the guy, subsequently identified as 21-year-old Tyriq Qwadere Wiggins-Younger, reportedly attempted to block her in.

Wiggins-Younger chased the girl in his car, eventually driving her to crash near the Target parking lot. Wiggins-Younger then approached the female, who shot him out of fear for her protection, according to authorities. Wiggins-Younger claimed to be an off-duty cop attempting to conduct a traffic check in his own car. The injured individual was first labeled as an off-duty security guard, which was erroneous.

During the encounter, the female was not hurt. Wiggins-Younger was apprehended and sent to the hospital in stable condition.
