DC police arrest murder suspect in brutal street shooting

Months ago, D.C. cops captured a guy sought for shooting and murdering a father as he was carrying his 1-year-old child in one arm and his 5-year-old child in the other.

Jarrell David Harris, 27, of southeast Washington, D.C., was wanted in connection with a homicide in the 2300 block of 18th Street in northeast D.C. on March 4th.

According to authorities, the victim, 42-year-old Sedrick Miller, was strolling with his two children at the time of the incident. Miller was carrying his one-year-old in a car seat and holding hands with his five-year-old when his corpse was strewn with gunshots and left for dead.

The crime was labeled as one of “the most horrific crimes” in Ward 5 in recent years by the police. Despite having a front-row seat to their father’s murder, the children were unharmed.

Harris was swiftly recognized as a suspect, and the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force filed a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant and arrested Harris on Friday after months of seeking. He was taken to the Homicide Branch of the Metro Police Department and charged with first-degree murder.

Harris was refused bond during an arraignment hearing on Saturday. The date of his next court appearance is May 20.
