The results of the study show that cats may be able to learn names through observation by living with humans/

According to a new study conducted in Japan, cats that live with each other can learn the names of their mates as well as identify them.
The discovery was made by scientists at Kyoto University after studying 48 cats that lived in a house or cafe with at least two other companions

When they swapped photographs of cats with the same owners saying a different cat’s name, the kitties in the study stared at the picture for longer, which the researchers saw as a sign of utter confusion.

The longer the cats examined knew one other, the more time they reportedly spent looking at images of the cat with the fake identity. When given names and images of other cat owners, non-household cats, like those who live in cat cafes, apparently showed no hesitancy.

The same study revealed that cats may learn the names of the individuals with whom they share their lives.

One of the people they studied received an incomplete result because “she escaped from the room,” according to the researchers.
