Pennsylvania U.S. Senate candidate David McCormick said on Sunday that the “stakes are so high” in the forthcoming Republican primary to select the strongest Republican to go to the general election and shift the country’s trajectory by overturning Democratic dominance of the upper chamber of Congress.

“I think we’re going to have a high turnout, and right now in the primary, what people are focusing on is who matched my conservative principles and is going to fight for those in Washington. The second issue is, who is going to win the general election? The stakes are so high because it will define not just the future of Pennsylvania, but also the direction of the country, and three, who will come up on day one with the expertise to deal with the situation we’re in — Ukraine, China, open borders?” he asked.

McCormick, a former Bridgewater CEO who went to West Point and served in Iraq during the Reagan administration, did not name his Republican opponent, Kathy Barnette, whose viability as a Republican in the general election has been called into question due to previous controversial tweets about Islam.

Despite not receiving an endorsement from former President Trump, who backed Dr. Oz in the Pennsylvania GOP primary, McCormick claimed he supports Trump’s America First platform.

“I am fully committed to making America great again,” McCormick added. “Since the day I chose to go to West Point to serve our wonderful nation, I’ve always put America first. So, definitely, I will be someone that stands strong and fights for America’s First Policies, and I believe President Trump has done an excellent job in bringing that agenda to the forefront and dealing with the millions of neglected people across Pennsylvania and our country. And it is something I will fight for: pro-growth economic policies, fair trade, energy dominance, and secure borders are the core building blocks of a great America.”

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and other Republican heavyweights have endorsed McCormick, who has positioned himself as the conservative candidate to take on the Democratic machine led by President Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Oz, on the other hand, has been accused of being a Hollywood liberal.

“Pennsylvanians are focused on this, and they realize this is probably the most important race of their lives in terms of their votes in Pennsylvania, and they’re angry,” McCormick said, explaining how Pennsylvania voters are outraged by record inflation, attacks on the energy industry, and other issues.

“They are enraged, and they are concerned that their nation is slipping away. And they consider this campaign as critical to thwarting the dreadful left agenda led by Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer in Washington “McCormick explained.

“And they see this as a contest that will determine whether there is a Senate conservative, America First conservative leading in the Senate and whether Republicans will dominate the Senate, and Chuck Schumer packs his bags and returns to New York.”
