When an American critic and journalist referred to Shah Rukh Khan as “India’s Tom Cruise” in an article, the actor’s supporters demanded that the writer revise his statement. Following comments made on Twitter by Shah Rukh’s supporters, the Top Gun: Maverick star started to trend.
International reviewers have taken notice of Shah Rukh Khan‘s Pathaan’s triumph on a worldwide scale. The Hindi action movie broke both domestic and international box office records. Shah Rukh’s supporters urged American journalist and critic Scott Mendelson to retract his statement after calling the actor “India’s Tom Cruise” in an article. Following comments made on Twitter by Shah Rukh’s supporters, the Top Gun: Maverick star started to trend.
In response to Scott’s post, Shah Rukh‘s supporters pleaded with him not to draw comparisons to the American actor. One admirer said, “SRK is SRK ! He isn’t Indian Tom Cruise but rather a national treasure, he is a man beyond his films.” Another reversed his claim and said, “You made an emotional mistake in your statement. Shah Rukh Khan is Emotion. He is the greatest among the Best, the best among the greatest. Period!! Though I like Tom, I would not mind at all if you address him as American’s Shah Rukh Khan.”

Others emphasised how Shah Rukh was treated disrespectfully in the analogy. One person tweeted, “Correct the headline of your newsletter. Shah Rukh Khan is Shah Rukh Khan, no one ever will be able to come even closer to him. No one is comparable with him.” Another admirer clarified, “I know you’re just trying to provide context but as a white American who hadn’t seen a single Bollywood movie until 2019, Shah Rukh is so much more than Tom Cruise. There is no Hollywood equivalent.”
On January 25, Siddharth Malhotra’s film Pathaan was released. Shah Rukh played an Indian spy attempting to stop a former rogue agent from spreading terror over the world in the movie, which also starred Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia, and Ashutosh Rana. Since its debut, the Hindi movie has brought in almost 700 crore at the global box office.
