KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced a holiday for the Hindu community on November 13 on the occasion of Diwali.
The Sindh government has announced a holiday for the Hindu community on the occasion of Diwali, a notification has also been issued in this regard.
“There will be a holiday for the Hindu community on the festival of Diwali in government and semi-government institutions and corporations across the province on Monday, November 13” the notification read.
Earlier, the Sindh government had announced a public holiday on November 9 on Iqbal Day and the Chief Secretary Sindh Fakhar Alam had issued a notification in this regard.
Diwali is a Hindu religious festival celebrated every year in November, it is also called the festival of lights or festival of good luck, so people light lamps on this day.
Diwali is observed to celebrate the return of Lord Krishna. On this day the Hindu community worships Lakshmi and offers prayers. Entrepreneurs prefer starting a new business on Diwali day.
This five-day-long festival is equally important in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism. According to Hindu traditions, this day is also attributed to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.
In this festival, Hindu people decorate their houses and prepare sweets and food. The Hindu community celebrates Diwali by burning firecrackers.
