ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) leader Sherry Rehman said that the constitution of the country binds the President to summon a National Assembly session within 21 days after the general elections.

Talking to media persons, she said it was the responsibility of President Arif to convene the National Assembly session. She said that the summary of convening the meeting of the National Assembly was sent to the President Dr. Arif Alvi but he has not signed it till now.

Sherry Rehman further said that Arif Alvi’s tenure has already been plagued with controversy and even before he left, he was abiding by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf oath, not the presidential one. She said as per Article (2) 91 of the Constitution, the session is for 21 days after the election. Summoning is mandatory and does not require any pending matter.

PPP leader accused President Arif Alvi of trying to create a constitutional crisis and said the President should avoid any such unconstitutional measures before leaving.

About Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s case of presidential reference, she expressed hope that the court would rectify the injustice and ensure transparency and justice.
