Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has unveiled Pakistan’s pioneering virtual women’s police station, “Meri Awaz, Maryam Nawaz,” in a historic move aimed at prioritizing women’s issues, particularly harassment, with confidentiality at its core.

Operated under the Punjab Safe City Authority, the virtual police station is manned by female police communication officers who are IT graduates. Women can access this station through multiple platforms, including 15 calls, live chat on the Women Safety App, video calls, the Punjab Police App, and the Safe City web portal, ensuring anonymity in reporting without divulging personal information.

A notable feature of this virtual station is the live video call option, which empowers women to share their location and concerns. The station provides guidance through all stages of FIR registration, investigation, and trial. Furthermore, the deployment of 100 modern emergency panic buttons across Lahore ensures immediate access to Safe City.

In addition to the virtual station, the Chief Minister has launched free Wi-Fi services at over 50 locations in Lahore, named “CM Maryam Nawaz Free Wi-Fi.” Moreover, Lahore has pioneered traffic violation monitoring through artificial intelligence in South Asia.
