The Punjab Education Ministry has made a groundbreaking announcement, unveiling a set of major reforms intended to transform the education sector in the province. These changes, agreed upon following successful discussions between the provincial education minister and the Punjab Education Association, are set to be implemented starting March 1, 2025.
The significant alteration is the adjustment of the new academic year’s start date to March 1 instead of April 1. This change aims to align the province with global educational norms and create a better learning environment for students.
Moreover, all yearly examinations will be concluded by February 28, ensuring students have sufficient time to prepare adequately and minimizing the stress of last-minute studying.
To enhance leadership within primary schools, middle school teachers will now be appointed as heads of primary schools. This initiative aims to elevate experienced educators to prominent roles in primary education, thereby enhancing the overall quality of education.
The provincial government has additionally announced the regularization of all 14,000 assistant education officers by June 30. This decision aims to offer job security and stability to these indispensable education professionals.
SST teachers in the 17 and 18 scales will be promoted and appointed as heads of high schools, acknowledging their extensive experience and expertise in the field.
These reforms represent a notable transformation in Punjab’s education landscape and are anticipated to positively impact the quality of education in the province.
