Processions to observe 9th Muharram will be taken out countrywide today in connection to the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions in Karbala.

The main procession of 9th Muharram will be taken out from Nashtar Park at 12pm in Karachi, which will cross People’s Chowrangi, Saddar Dawa Khana, Preedy Street, Bolton Market and will be culminated at Imambargah Hussainian Iranian Kharadar.

Main procession of Rawalpindi will be taken out from Imambargah Yadgare Hussain, Commercial market and will culminate at Imambargah Yadgare Hussain after crossing through the destined route.

Procession in Islamabad will be taken out at 2pm from Asna e ashri, whereas procession of 9th Muharram in Lahore will be taken out from Pando Street Islam pura and will be culminated at Khaima Sadat Imambargah.

The main Shabeeh-e-Zuljinnah procession will be taken out from Peshawar’s Hussainia Hall Imambargah, crossing through Saddar Road, Fakhar Alam Road, Kali Bari and will culminate at Hussainia Hall Imambargah after Chowk fawwara.

The provincial government has announced a ban on pillion riding across Sindh, including Karachi, on the 8th, 9th and 10th Muharram.

There will be a ban on pillion riding from the night of the 8th of Muharram until Ashura in order to maintain law and order and avoid any untoward incident.

The Sindh government has also requested the ministry to block the mobile phone services along the procession routes on Muharram 9 and 10.

According to the details, as many as 69,545 police personnel will perform security duties across the province including 17,558 in Karachi, 16,816 in Hyderabad, 2,237 in Mirpurkhas, 9,280 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 8,258 in Sukkar and 15,404 in Larkana, reads a contingency plan prepared by AIG Operations Sindh for Muharram.
