
The death toll has risen to 30 in the quake-affected areas, whereas, locals have reported aftershocks in Azad Jammu & Kashmir after a magnitude 5.8 earthquake hit Azad Kashmir and areas in Punjab province yesterday.
According to details, at least 30 people have lost their lives and more than 450 sustained severe injuries, who are undergoing treatments in different Hospitals.
The Government of Azad Kashmir announced strike in all public and private institutes of Mirpur District.
The earthquake sent people racing out of buildings and homes reciting Kalmas. However men, in the affected areas, spent the night on the roadsides, whereas, women took shelter in nearby public parks.
Three ambulances and a group of 12, consisting of doctors and staff of PIMS Hospital, have been dispatched to assist earthquake victims of Mirpur, Azad Kashmir.
According to the District management, injured are under-treatment at DHQ Mirpur and DHQ Mandan.
Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kasmir Raja Farooq Haider imposes emergency in the state
Prime Minister AJ&K said that emergency had been imposed in the state after the earthquake of 5.8 magnitude jolted the area and rescue operation was continued to save lives and properties of the people.
He directed the concerned departments to provide immediate support in the ongoing relief and rescue activities in the quake-hit areas.
He instructed the doctors after consoling the victims of earth quake.
The quake hit some urban and rural parts of the AJK including Muzaffarabad, Kotli and many other scattered places.
A strong earthquake jolted the federal capital Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar and its suburban parts on Tuesday evening, however, no major incident of death and damage was reported from other parts of the country except AJK as yet.
Tremors felt in various cities for 10 seconds including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Pasrur, Jhelum, Kot Momin, Murree, Kala Bagh, Sangla Hills and many others where citizens came out of their houses and offices.
