IHC accepts Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan’s unconditional apology
Special assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan’s unconditional apology for criticizing the judiciary has been accepted by Islamabad High Court (IHC).
According to details, hearing of the contempt of court case presided over by Islamabad High Court Chief Justice, Justice Athar Minallah.
As per the sources, The IHC chief justice remarked that special assistant should wait for a legal decision.
Islamabad High Court issued the notice over holding anti-judiciary press conference and directed her to appear in the court on November 1.
“The contents of your press conference about the courts were unwarranted being a Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, more particularly the Spokesperson of the Federal Government,” the notice stated.
While talking about why the show cause notice was issued, Chief Juistce added “I am confident that the prime minister must have not asked you to issue such a statement.”
In the hearing, the IHC CJ had also lashed out at the special assistant for issuing a statement against the bail granted to former premier Nawaz Sharif in a press conference.
Special Assistant, while holding a press conference following the bail, said the government would want to see such speedy trials for all the under-trial prisoners and in all cases. “We hope this new trend will be applicable to all cases,”.
