Pakistan and the Republic of Malta have agreed to increase high level communications for further enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Inaugural round of Pakistan-Malta Bilateral Political Consultations held in the Maltese capital Valletta.

Special Secretary Dr Aman Rashid represented Pakistani side while the Maltese side by its Director-General Political and EU Affairs Ms. Maria Camilleri Calleja.

The Maltese side appreciated Pakistan’s support to the efforts for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan and Prime Minister’s initiative for defusion of tensions in Middle East through diplomatic means.

The Maltese side also expressed its wish to see the Kashmir dispute resolved through dialogue.

Pakistan-Malta relations are defined by the historical bilateral relations existing between the two states.

Malta is considered a gateway to the European Union for Pakistani entrepreneurs, whereas Pakistan gives simultaneous access to Maltese business interests in Asia.

Pakistan and Malta established diplomatic relations in January 1966. Malta has its diplomatic and consular responsibilities looked after by the Italian Embassy residing in Islamabad.

On the other hand, Pakistan is concurrently accredited to Malta through its embassy in Tunis with an Honorary Consulate in Attard (Malta) since September 2015. Both countries are full members of the Commonwealth of Nations.
