Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the purpose of the subsidy is to provide relief to the poor and deserving people.

According to details, a think tank meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan on issues related to economy.

The meeting discussed budgets for electricity, gas, fertilizers, utility stores, exports, housing, Ehsaas Program, while a detailed briefing was given on budgets and subsidies for NHA and other government agencies.

The Prime Minister appreciated the effectiveness, accessibility and transparency of the Cash Transfer Program to the needy by the Ehssas Program.

The Prime Minister said that the purpose of setting up a think tank related to economy is to consider important economic issues and to formulate recommendations and future course of action.

The PM also said that the purpose of the subsidy is to provide relief to the poor and deserving people but there is a need to take a closer look at the entire subsidy system.

The Prime Minister said that the database of Ehsaas Cash Program should also be used for providing electricity, gas, utility stores and other subsidies to the poor and needy.

Imran Khan also said that it should be ensured that the amount of subsidy is made available to the needy in a completely transparent manner and as many people as possible benefit from this facility.

Prime Minister Imran Khan directed that a special cell be set up to review in detail the subsidies provided by the government while the cell would review the subsidy and make comprehensive recommendations for its further improvement and enhancement of its usefulness.

The meeting was also attended by Hamad Azhar, Senator Shibli Faraz, Umar Ayub Khan, Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Abdul Razzaq Dawood, Dr Ishrat Hussain, Dr Sania Nishtar, Nadeem Babar and former Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen, Sultan Ali Allana, Arif Habib and Ijaz Nabi through video link.
