Now Japan can also have the taste of Pakistani mangoes this year...
Pakistan is expected to achieve its target of 150 million dollars through the export of mangoes. The target that was to be achieved by the end of 2020 was looking slim to get due to the global pandemic.
According to a report by the Gwadar Pro published on Thursday, the country had already surpassed its export target by 45,000 tons despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.
A report by the All Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers & Merchants Association (PFVA) stated that the country had so far exported 125,000 tons of mangoes getting revenue of $72 million whilst the corona-revised target was only 85,000 tons.
During the last year, the export of o fruits was enhanced by 3.8% while an increase in 28% in the export of vegetables was noted. The two fetched $431.27 million and $30 million respectively. The government had taken timely decisions for these exports as this is the highest revenue in terms of foreign exchange generation.
With various industries joining in to improve the situation, Pakistan International Airlines gave up to a 30% discount in freight charges allowing the process of export to become easier during the pandemic. Pakistan ranks 6th in the world in mango production and has a 5%share in the global mango market.
