The launching ceremony of 1st state of the art Type-054 Class Frigate for the Pakistan Navy was held at Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard, China.

According to the spokesperson of the Pakistan Navy, the launching ceremony of 1st state of the art Type-054 Class Frigate for the Pakistan Navy was held at Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard, China.

Commodore Azfar Humayun (Chief Naval Overseer) graced the event as the Chief Guest in presence of China Shipbuilding Trading Co, Ltd. (CSTC) Chairman, Mr. Li Hongtao.

Spokesperson Pakistan Navy went on to say on the official twitter handle;

Technologically advanced platform fitted with the latest Surface, Subsurface, Anti-air weapons, Combat Management System & Sensors will strengthen PN’ combat capability & maintain peace & stability.

The Chief Guest of the event acknowledged the support of Chinese Shipyard & CSTC despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The Type 054A is a multi-role frigate. They have a length of 134 meters, a beam of 16 meters for a displacement of 4,000 tons. They have a crew complement of 165 sailors and are fitted with:

  • a PJ26 76mm main gun

  • 8 C803 anti-ship missiles
  • 32x VLS cells for HQ-16 surface to air missiles
  • 2x Type 730 30mm CIWS
  • 2x Triple Torpedo launchers

Earlier Pakistan Navy inducted PNS Yarmook in its fleet. The warship is equipped with state-of-the-art weapon and defense systems and is capable of performing numerous naval operations and can also carry helicopters and drones. The 2,300-tonne corvette PNS ‘Yarmook’ F-271 is capable of performing a variety of tasks and maritime operations and could also transport a helicopter and an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).

The ship is capable of launching two high-speed Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) at 11.5 meters and 6.5 meters simultaneously and can accommodate two Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) for special mission operations.

The ship was built by, Damen, a Dutch shipbuilder, which in 2017 signed a contract with Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence Production for two multi-purpose OPVs.

Damen constructed the corvette at its yard in Galati, an Ottoman shipyard. The yard has built nearly 40 vessels for the defense and security segment.

According to Navy Spokesperson, the introduction of this vessel into the naval fleet will significantly enhance Pakistan Navy’s capability to safeguard its maritime borders.
