Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that peace and stability in the region are conditional on a lasting peace in Afghanistan.
According to details, the former Afghan Prime Minister and head of Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan arrived in Islamabad on a three-day visit and was received by the Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Muhammad Sadiq Khan along with Foreign Office officials.
During the meeting between Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi at the Foreign Office, issues of mutual interest including Pak-Afghan bilateral relations and ongoing inter-Afghan talks for peace in Afghanistan were discussed.
On the occasion, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had clearly stated that the only way to a lasting solution to the Afghan problem is political dialogue acceptable to Afghans. Appreciated, the Afghan leadership has a rare opportunity to restore peace in Afghanistan through inter-Afghan dialogue.
The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan would continue its efforts for peace in the region including Afghanistan.
Gulbuddin Hekmatyar said that we consider Pakistan as our second home.
According to a Foreign Office spokesman, the visit of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the head of Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan, is an important part of efforts to promote broader bilateral ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Gulbuddin Hekmatyar will stay in Pakistan from October 19 to 21.
The Afghan leader will also hold meetings with President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjarani and Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser and other dignitaries.
