ToRs Prepared for Broadsheet inquiry commission

On Thursday, the federal government prepared terms of reference ToRs for the commission to investigate into Broadsheet findings.

According to the details, the ToRs for the inquiry commission will be presented before the federal cabinet for its approval. Furthermore, the summary of ToRs for the commission on Broadsheet matter has been sent to the federal cabinet members through a circular.

As per the summary, the inquiry commission will also hold investigation into those cases that had been shut due to political compromise alongside holding a thorough investigation into Broadsheet revelations.

An inquiry committee has also been set up to investigate the scandal with Justice (R) Azmat Saeed as its head. The main objective of the committee was to investigate reports of the UK-based assets recovery firm Broadsheet on corruption allegedly committed by over 200 Pakistani nationals, including politicians, bureaucrats and military personnel, in 45 days. However, for the commission the time limit for completion of the investigation can also be extended.

The PPP and PML-N had rejected the name of the former Supreme Court judge to investigate the matter saying he was with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) when the deal was signed with the asset recovery firm.

The PML-N is of the view that because the top court judge was in the Panama bench which disqualified former Nawaz Sharif and is a member of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital’s Board of Governors so it does not believe a transparent probe would be conducted.
