KARACHI: Police have claimed to have arrested three suspects in connection with the gang-rape of a first-year student in Gulshan-e-Hadeed.
According to the report, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Irfan Bahadur said that the accused had abducted the girl in Gulshan-e-Hadid.
She was then criminally assaulted and then thrown out of a car at the Defense Housing Authority.
According to the details of the incident, the girl had allegedly left home on February 9 to go to college in Gulshan-e-Hadeed when she was abducted by the accused in a car.
The next day, the defence police found the girl, who informed the Steel Town police about the girl.
Steel Town police registered an FIR against the three accused on the complaint of the girl’s father and arrested the three.
According to the police spokesperson, the SSP accompanied by the investigation team visited the girl’s residence and met the girl’s father and assured him of justice.
On the other hand, a special team comprising senior police officers has been formed which is likely to submit its report to the authorities on a daily basis.
In this regard, after the arrest of all the named accused, the investigation was started and medical examination of the arrested accused was completed while DNA samples were also obtained for further investigation.
SSP Malir said the girl was medically examined by a female medico-legal officer of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center.
However, police are awaiting final reports from doctors for further legal action in the case.
SSP Malir told Dawn that final medical reports are expected in the next few days.
Meanwhile, the father of the rape victim told reporters that the police is cooperating fully with the family.
He said that when he went to the Steel Town police station, an FIR was immediately registered and raids were carried out to arrest the accused.
He hoped that the senior police officers who visited his house on Friday would bring justice to his family by ensuring exemplary punishment for the accused.
