The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued a new guideline on commenting on NAB in TV programs.

According to the directive issued on Wednesday that making judgmental and Unipolar comments on the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during the program is a violation of the orders of the Supreme Court.

A statement issued by PEMRA to the satellite TV channels further said that it has been observed that during news and current affairs programs, unnecessary and one-sided comments are made without taking a stand from the NAB. Allegedly the purpose is to discredit state institutions.

According to the PEMRA directive, the unnecessary and one-sided commentary is also a violation of the orders of the Supreme Court and in this regard, PEMRA has earlier issued instructions to refrain from commenting on pending cases.

The guideline also states that “the purpose of programs should be to provide information to the public, rather than to comment and comment on programs on under trial and investigation.”

PEMRA has issued instructions to avoid biased and one-sided comments during programs, saying that “all TV channels should ensure that the content is scrutinized through an in-house editorial committee.”

PEMRA has also directed the TV channels to make the content impartial, fair and purposeful.
