ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved its judgment on an intra-court appeal seeking an inquiry into an alleged US letter.

A case was heard in the IHC on an intra-court appeal to place former Prime Minister Imran Khan on the Exit Control List (ECL) in connection with the investigation of the alleged US letter, BOL News reported On Wednesday.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Amir Farooq conducted the hearing.

Earlier on April 11, the IHC rejected the petition seeking a probe into the alleged threat letter and to place the name of Imran Khan on the ECL.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah, while delivering the verdict, maintained that the petitioner had tried to make the cable controversial.

Not only this, but the court has also fined the petitioner Rs 100,000 which has to be submitted within 15 days.

Petitioner Maulvi Iqbal Haider in his plea has requested the court to put the names of former prime minister, former federal ministers namely, Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, National Assembly deputy speaker Qasim Suri and Pakistani diplomat Asad Majeed on the ECL and order for initiating proceedings of a treason case by a trial court against them unless the ‘letter gate’ issue was investigated.

The CJ remarked during the hearing that it is the responsibility of the state to investigate it and questioned the petitioner about why he was politicizing the matter and what was his request to the court.

It is pertinent to mention here that on March 27, former Prime Minister Imran Khan waved a letter in front of a public gathering claiming it to be a threat letter against his government received from a foreign country.
